The holiday season is fast approaching and there is a huge opportunity for small businesses to increase their sales and profits on the internet. Businesses need to be thinking about their holiday marketing including traditional off-line marketing as well as internet marketing and social media strategies.
Don’t panic! There is still time to sneak in a few creative holiday promotion ideas and make an impact on this year’s profits. Here are 12 ways to promote your product and services for the holidays.
1. Create a holiday-themed video.
Video production is one of the best ways to promote your product and services. Share it using your social media channels and make sure to upload directly to Facebook and YouTube. Consider creating a shorter video for Twitter and Instagram. Incorporate your videos into your email marketing campaign as well.
2. Hold a holiday contest on your Facebook page.
Create a fun and interactive contest and use Facebook to promote it. You could encourage your fans to send in photos of themselves using your product or have them submit a specific story of why they deserve to win. Be sure to have a giveaway prize for the winner and let people know what they could win. Your prize could be tickets to an event you are holding, a gift card, or something else based around your industry.
3. Hire a graphic designer to put a holiday spin on your logo for the season.
Use your holiday logo in your email signature, on social media and in your advertising for a cool look that stands out. You could even incorporate into your website and remember to add to your client holiday cards. Use SendOutCards to create amazing cards to send to customers.
4. Create easy to purchase gifts.
Have you been into a Tim Horton’s lately? Silly question. Notice how they have cute little holiday gifts conveniently set up on display so that they are easy for someone to buy. They are ready for someone who is in a hurry and are clearly priced so that someone could just grab one impulsively. They also have their gift cards front and centre for awesome stocking stuffer ideas.
5. Create holiday email marketing campaigns.
Create an email campaign and incorporate your products and services, and offer holiday-themed tips, or cross-promote with another aligned business. People have extra time off during the holidays which mean they have extra time to get caught up on reading. Encourage sharing of your email newsletters, and use social media share buttons, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+.
6. Turn Products and Services into Gifts
This goes along with #4. Repackage your products and services as gifts. Stuff your gift cards into stockings, turn products into gift baskets and make it easy for customers to buy your product. Be creative, and show people how they can give your product and services away as a gift. Bored of the traditional gift card idea? Why not create custom gift card packages and show people how they could be used like a date night gift card package, or family time option.
7. Create extended holiday hours.
The holidays can be stressful, so you may want to opt for longer hours so that you can provide your products and services easier. This is also appreciated by shift workers and people who have a hard time shopping during regular hours. Make sure to post these hours at your location and online.
8. Partner with other local businesses
Team up with local businesses to help drive traffic to each other. Maybe you could offer a cross-promoted contest so customers have to visit both your locations to enter, or maybe you promote each other’s email newsletter to your audience online.
9. Offer complimentary shipping.
Sometimes having free shipping and making the buying process easier is more valuable than a discount.
10. Hand out coupons valid for the New Year
Encourage customers to come back to your location after the holidays when sales are generally slower.
11. Set up a free gift wrapping station for shoppers who are on the go.
If you’re like me, you might not be the best gift wrapper, and I love the option for free gift wrapping. You could also accept donations for gift wrapping and donate all proceeds to a local charity.
12. Remember to use your website
Your website is one of your most valuable marketing tools, so don’t forget to use it! Update your holiday hours, add your best selling holiday products, and add tips that your audience will find useful. Promote any contests, giveaways and sales you are offering, and remember to encourage people to sign up for your newsletter and connect on social media.
Remember to train all staff on holiday promotions and policies and get into the holiday spirit. When you spend valuable time and money developing holiday marketing initiatives, you want to ensure your staff are aware and understand the details.
